Shanghai, September 23, 2025 – Scenic Group, the global leader in ultra-luxury cruises and land journeys, today announced the official Chinese naming of its Scenic Cruises and Emerald Cruises fleets, alongside a landmark charter partnership with JI TRAVEL and the Changjiangruhai/Daokouwudui. Together, they will launch the first-ever Chinese charter of Scenic Eclipse II to Antarctica in 2026, highlighted by a rare expedition to Snow Hill Island, home to the world’s largest emperor penguin colony.

“This is more than a naming ceremony – it is a statement of long-term commitment to the Chinese and Asian markets,” said Anthony Laver, Scenic Group General Manager Sales & Marketing, APAC. “Unified Chinese ship names with rich cultural meaning strengthen our brand recognition and create a deeper connection with Chinese guests. We are honored to partner with JI TRAVEL and the Changjiangruhai/Daokouwudui to introduce the first Scenic Eclipse II Antarctic charter for the China market.”

A milestone partnership for China’s luxury travel market

Founded by alumni of Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) and Tsinghua PBC School of Finance, the Changjiangruhui/Daokouwudui unites top entrepreneurs across China’s leading business schools. With a focus on global exploration and lifelong learning, the team has organized milestone polar journeys, including the Guizhou Zhenjiu Voyage. Introduced by Mr. Mike Liu, the leader of Changjiangruhai/Daokouwudui.

JI TRAVEL, China’s pioneer in polar exploration, was founded in 2018 with a philosophy of “Exploration Inspires, Inheritance Creates the Future.” Today, it provides sustainable, in-depth global travel experiences.

Scenic Eclipse II: redefining ultra-luxury expedition cruising

Launched in 2023, Scenic Eclipse II is the world’s leading six-star, all-inclusive polar discovery yacht. Purpose-built for extreme environments, it features:

•114 suites (32–195 sqm) with a 1:1 guest-to-crew ratio

•10 dining options and over 130 premium whiskies and wines

•Two Airbus H130-T2 helicopters and a submarine – the only ship worldwide with this configuration

•PC6 Polar Class ice certification

“Scenic Eclipse II brings a three-dimensional Antarctic experience—by land, sea, and air,” said Mr. Zhao Xin, Founder & CEO of JI TRAVEL. “Guests will not only cruise in ultra-luxury comfort but also land by helicopter to witness emperor penguin breeding at Snow Hill Island—an extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime adventure.”

China’s growing luxury travel momentum

According to Grand View Research, China’s luxury travel market generated USD 94.3 billion in 2024, representing 6.4% of the global total, and is expected to reach USD 155.5 billion by 2030 at a CAGR of 8.8%. Wildlife and adventure travel are among the fastest-growing segments, reflecting the demand for sustainable, culturally immersive, and personalized experiences.

Argentina welcomes Chinese explorers

Mr. Santiago Demián Cataldo, Consul for Culture & Tourism Promotion at the Consulate General of Argentina in Shanghai, also attended the event. He highlighted Argentina’s role as the gateway to Antarctica and warmly welcomed more Chinese travelers to embark on their Antarctic journeys via Ushuaia.

Looking ahead

Beyond the Antarctic charter, Scenic Group, together with JI TRAVEL and the Changjiangruhai/Daokouwudui, will gradually introduce the full Scenic and Emerald Cruises river and ocean portfolio to the China market, opening a new chapter for Chinese high-net-worth travelers.

“This is not just a voyage—it is an extraordinary expedition to rediscover the world and expand the boundaries of life.”
